condiciones experimentales aumento considerablemente.

[eng] Fibromyalgia is one of the most studied syndromes today despite its unknown etiology and
treatment. The main characteristic of fibromyalgia is hypersensitivity, meaning people who
suffer it feel pain more easily and they need less stimulation to notice it, it is usually accompanied
with insomnia, anxiety and depression. The aim of this research is to find out out which is the
effect that cranial stimulation produces through (TdCS o tACS) regarding thresholds and VAS.
Thirty patients suffering from fibromyalgia were randomly assigned to (tDCS=10), (tACS=10) or
(SHAM=10). The pain threshold and VAS were registered both before and after regardless of the
experimental condition the patients were subjected to. Before electric stimulation, the threshold
scores regarding tDCS and tACS were higher than after intervention, contrary to the patients
undergoing SHAM. As for the VAS scores, in all experimental conditions it increased
considerably. This means that the research hypothesis, where we expected to find out that before
subjecting the patients to tDCS or tACS the pain thresholds would increase and the VAS wouldn’t
significantly change, was not confirmed. All these findings suggest that both direct current
transcranial (tDCS) and alternating current (tACS) stimulation increase pain sensitivity in
fibromyalgia patients. |
