[eng] Globalization and new technologies have irreversibly changed the way 21st-century
society interact, work, do business, and learn. However, the field of education has
been a bit slow in picking up this pace. Living in a globalized environment that
enhances communication makes the acquisition of the English language much more
common and necessary in an unprecedented way. Despite this, Spanish learners
show a lack of ability in this language, which may be the consequence of a failure in
the current educational system, pointing towards the pressing need for a change in
the way foreign languages are taught in schools. This thesis examines and
compares the traditional and current methods for second language training and
analyzes the proposal of an educational tool based on a gamification model as an
example of an alternative strategy for a fast and effective learning in the classroom.
This model is put into practice in a real setting and is analyzed thoroughly for the
ease and efficiency of second language acquisition. This study’s conclusions throw
some light into educational implication of this concept and calls for the necessity of
further research in this regard.
