El primer boom turístico en Menorca y su reflejo en Menorca, Diario Insular (1967-1973)

Abstract

[esp] En este trabajo se pretende estudiar mediante la prensa como fue el boom turístico en Menorca, a través de un punto de vista desde el cual nunca antes se había analizado. La motivación del estudio nace de la necesidad de conocer cómo la prensa se hizo eco de aquel acontecimiento en auge que era el turismo de masas. Para llevar a cabo esta investigación, se ha realizado un análisis del único periódico en papel de tirada local conocido en Menorca hasta la fecha, disponible en la Hemeroteca de la Biblioteca Pública de Mahón. Se repasarán hechos relevantes para el desarrollo turístico de Menorca, como la etapa preturística de la isla, basada en la ganadería y la industria manufacturera, la creación del aeropuerto, la evolución hotelera o la llegada de la crisis del petróleo, siempre apoyándose en esta fuente primaria que es el diario insular.

[eng] This work aims to study, through the press, how was the tourist boom in Menorca, through a point of view from which it had never been analysed before. The motivation for the study stems from the need to know how the press echoed that booming event that was mass tourism. To carry out this research, an analysis has been carried out of the only local print newspaper known in Menorca to date, available in the newspaper library of the public library of Mahón. Relevant facts for the tourist development of Menorca will be reviewed, such as the pretouristic stage of the island, based on livestock and the manufacturing industry, the creation of the airport, the hotel evolution or the arrival of the oil crisis, always relying in this primary source that is the insular newspaper.
