Psychotic symptoms and quality of life: mediational analysis of dispositional mindfulness performance

[eng] People diagnosed with schizophrenia-related disorders report poor Quality of Life (QoL), in contrast to clinicians who pay more attention to psychotic symptoms. Prior studies have suggested that Dispositional Mindfulness (DM) is related to psychological well-being in the general population. Therefore, the aim of this study was twofold: 1) establishing whether there is a relationship between psychotic symptoms and psychological QoL, and 2) in case that this link exists, assessing whether DM is a mediator between psychotic symptomatology and psychological QoL in a sample of schizophrenia (SCHZ) spectrum patients. Fifty-eight patients from a community rehabilitation center were assessed using the PANSS interview, WHOQOLBREF questionnaire, and MAAS scale. Backward regression analyses were performed for each WHOQOL-BREF dimension using PANSS factors as predictors Mediation analysis was then performed for each WHOQOL-BREF dimension using Wallwork’s significant factors from PANSS as predictors and DM as mediator. Results suggest that DM significantly mediated the relationship between depressed symptoms and QoL, and between excited factor and environmental QoL.
