modelos mixtos lineales generalizados (GLMMs).
[eng] Non-tradable catches are a reality for fisheries around the world. The improvement of
the selectivity of the different fishing gear, not only for target species but also for by-catch,
has gained prominence in recent years. The present study is located in this context,
comparing the yield of two types of trammel nets directed to the capture of red lobster
(Palinurus elephas), a species economically appreciated in the Mediterranean and East
Atlantic. The main objective is to determine the selectivity of both types of trammel nets on
the scorpionfish (Scorpaena scrofa), one of the main and most valuable by-catch species
caught in this fishery. For this purpose, between 2012 and 2015 a total of 144 experimental
fisheries were carried out in a methodical and standardized manner (72 sets of trammel nets
composed of the same number of pieces of both types of trammel nets to be compared,
PMF-conventional use vs. MMF16-experimental). These experimental fisheries were carried
out in the Columbretes Islands Marine Reserve (RMIC), as an experimental laboratory (> 25
years of fishing exclusion). The sizes, biomass (kg) and abundances (number of individuals)
of S. scrofa captured by each type of trammel net (PMF vs. MMF16) were contrasted by
generalized linear mixed models (GLMMs). The results obtained show that the MMF16 net
captures fewer individuals and less biomass compared to the PMF net, although the catches
made by this experimental trammel net are usually larger. Therefore, this study opens a door
to knowledge on the efficiency and selectivity of trammel nets in relation to by-catch
species, such as scorpion fish, providing useful information for the development of
confidence indicators in ecosystem and socioeconomics management.
