La turistificació del centre històric de Palma

Abstract

[cat] La turistificació és el conjunt de canvis que experimenta el territori i els seus habitants arran de la seva especialització en aquest sector, i particularment quan reben una gran quantitat massiva de turistes. Així passa a ciutats turistificades de manera massiva, on el turisme té prioritat sobre les necessitats dels residents. En aquest treball s’han estudiat aquests conceptes, a partir del cas concret del Centre Històric de Palma amb l’objectiu d’analitzar les conseqüències que la turistificació ha suposat per a la ciutat i pels seus habitants. Tractaré què suposa el neoliberalisme, la gentrificació, el monocultiu turístic, la mercantilització i l’especulació de l’entorn urbà, l’expulsió de la població resident, la transformació del comerç tradicional, la pèrdua d’identitat i els impactes socials, ambientals i econòmics.

[eng] Touristification is the set of changes experiencied by the territory and its inhabitants as a result of their specialization in this sector, particularly when they receive a large number of tourists. This is what happens in cities that are massively touristified, where tourism takes priority over the needs of the residents. In this paper it has been studied these concepts, starting from the specific case of the Historic Center of Palma, with the aim of analyzing the consequences that touristification has meant for the city and its inhabitants. I will discuss what entails neoliberalism, gentrification, tourist monoculture, commodification and speculation of the urban environment, the expulsion of the resident population, the transformation of traditional commerce, the loss of identity and the social, environmental and economic impacts.
