The image of Mallorca as a tourist destination in Germany during the pandemic

[eng] Nowadays, one can barely speak about Mallorca without thinking about tourism as one of the most important sectors for the subsistence of the Spanish economy. European travelers, especially but not only the ones from Germany, are visiting the island year after year searching for good weather, amazing landscapes and the Spanish culture. However, due to the effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the tourism sector is in huge troubles. This not only has caused a tremendous financial impact, but also social consequences that need to be considered. In this bachelor thesis, I will elaborate on the importance of German tourism in Spain, focused on Mallorca as the favorite destination for German travelers; as well as the perception that German travelers had of the island before and during the Pandemic. The analysis will be based on media coverage, partly through traditional German newspapers but also from online sources such as blogs and magazines. In addition, I will survey selected German tourists to know their subjective impression. The results of this analysis will be used to create an outlook of how post-Covid tourism may look like. I will take a look at the new challenges it raises and how Mallorca can place and prepare to be a "safe" touristic destination in the future. The image of a safe touristic destination might be the key to return to the growth in the tourism sector and economic and financial stability.

[spa] Hoy en día, apenas se puede hablar de Mallorca sin pensar en el turismo como uno de los sectores más importantes para la subsistencia de la economía española. Los viajeros europeos, especialmente pero no solo los de Alemania, visitan la isla año tras año en busca de un buen clima, paisajes increíbles y la cultura española. Sin embargo, debido a los efectos de la pandemia Covid-19, el sector turístico se encuentra en grandes problemas. Esto no solo ha causado un tremendo impacto financiero, sino también consecuencias sociales que deben tenerse en cuenta. En este trabajo de fin de grado, profundizaré sobre la importancia del turismo alemán en España, centrándome en Mallorca como destino favorito de los alemanes; así como la percepción que los viajeros alemanes han tenido de Mallorca antes y durante la pandemia. El análisis se basará en medios de comunicación, en parte a través de los periódicos tradicionales alemanes, pero también de blogs y revistas. Además, encuestaré a una serie de turistas alemanes para conocer su impresión subjetiva. Los resultados de este análisis se utilizarán para crear una perspectiva de cómo se verá el turismo post-Covid. Examinaré los nuevos retos que plantea y cómo Mallorca puede posicionarse y prepararse para ser un destino turístico "seguro" en el futuro. La imagen de un destino turístico seguro puede ser la clave para volver al crecimiento del sector turístico y la estabilidad económica y financiera.
