estudiar el procés en el marc de la Teoria de l’Optimitat (PRINCE & SMOLENSKY 1993;
[eng] The transfer from oral language to written language is a process always involving change.
The purpose of this Final Masters’ Thesis is to study it in the field of subtitling. I
understand subtitling as the act of exhibit a written text on screen rendering an oral text,
either through translation (interlinguistic subtitling) or transcription (intralinguistic
subtitling). I analyse different intralinguistic subtitling samples from IB3 (Balearic
Islands Public Television) and TV3 (Catalonia Public Television), from four TV series.
The transfer from oral to written could be thought as a negotiation: the subtitler is
a professional who manages a negotiation between orality and textuality. In order to
successfully this negotiation, manages, strategies, choices, and tools are needed to build
an effective technic with good results. This reasoning validates concepts as input, output,
and constraints; i. e. a source text (input) that becomes subtitle (output) conditioned by a
set of constraints (rules, criteria, choices…). For those reasons, I propose to study this
process by means of Optimality Theory (PRINCE & SMOLENSKY 1993; MCCARTY &
PRINCE 1993), as well as Dols & Mansell (2008) proposal, to amplify the field of study
to trans-codification, concretely, in its case, for poetry translation. Analysed samples are
provided of four TV series: Amor de cans (IB3), Mai neva a Ciutat (IB3), Pep (IB3) and
Merlí (TV3), to study constraint interaction in subtitling. To do that, a formalisation based
on constraints is proposed to help analyse decisive conflicts in subtitling. The different
constraint hierarchies obtained could be identified as subtitling linguistic preferences and
acting mechanisms of the subtitlers, and therefore as different conceptions of how to
handle the mode substitution involved in subtitling
input, output kaj principioj (constraints); tio signifikas: unu fontoteksto (input) kiu fariĝas
subteksto (output) kondiĉita de grupo de principioj (reguloj, kriterioj, elektoj ...). Pro tio,
ni proponas studi ĉi tiun procezon per Optimumeca Teorio (Optimality Theory), same kiel
