[eng] The project focuses on the study of the possible benefits of consuming foods
rich in phytoestrogens for the prevention of chronic diseases. Any chronic
disease requires personalized and special attention to achieve good control of
it. These pathologies still require many studies to achieve the desired effects on
them and with this would come an improvement in the lifestyle of the person.
Knowing the consumption of foods rich in phytoestrogens in the population with
chronic diseases will allow us to observe and analyze whether these diseases
progress or remain stable despite their consumption.
In the population lacking chronic diseases, it is important to determine how the
consumption of phytoestrogens influences in order to obtain contrasted and
reliable results on whether their consumption slows down the appearance of
these chronic diseases. Adding a consumption rich in phytoestrogens does not
exempt you from following a healthy, varied and balanced diet.
Another object of study will be to find which are the foods that provide the
greatest benefit to each risk group and to know how to classify them by
pathologies.
The prevention of chronic diseases, menopause, cancer, hypertension,
dyslipidemia, hypercholesterolemia, etc. supports a large base due to the fact
that a high percentage of the current population suffers from any of these
diseases or has a direct relative who has it, which shows us that they are
diseases that sometimes require non-pharmacological treatments for their
control such as a healthy diet and sport, and if this were not necessary it would
be complemented with pharmacological treatment. The main objective is the
search and analysis of foods that benefit the health of the study population.
The study will be carried out through questionnaires where a stratified sample of
500 men and women between the ages of 50 and 75 will be randomly selected
from the population of Cartagena in the Region of Murcia, Spain. The surveys
will present multiple items where they will collect their nutritional information,
alcohol consumption, addiction data, previous pathologies, prescribed
medication, consumption of supplements, employment status, education, race,
sex, age and data on physical activity among others. The purpose of this
questionnaire will be to analyze the respondent in detail to obtain the greatest
number of reliable data.
The study to be developed will be descriptive, longitudinal and prospective,
adjusting to our objectives and thus achieving the proposed goals.
In addition, it is important to take into account an optimization of resources and
a good organization of the study for its development.
Phytoestrogens are biologically active compounds produced by plants naturally,
producing beneficial effects on people's health. Some of the frequently
consumed products rich in phytoestrogens are fruits such as raspberries or
strawberries, nuts, legumes, aromatic herbs, wine, beer and vegetables such as
onion, broccoli or pumpkin.
The consumption of these foods does not imply an economic effort or time to
search for these products that are available to everyone in any supermarket,
they simply require correct consumption and healthy cooking to ensure a
balanced and varied intake.
