[eng] This paper aims to study the relation between the use of social media and the level of
body image distortion (BID) in the universitarian population. On the other hand, it is
pretended to find whose are the variables that regulate this relation, focusing on the time
spent in media and what kind of content is being consumed on the internet. That’s why we
surveyed 255 students from the psychology school using the MBRSQ test and a survey that
we created about media use. The result indicates that there aren’t significant differences in
BID levels depending on the amount of time expended on Instagram. Although, there are
significant differences between those who see health and fitness content compared to those
who don’t. Being the ones that consume health and fitness content those with the higher
levels of BID. For this reason, it is concluded that the amount of time dedicated to Instagram
isn’t directly related to BID levels, however, consuming some kind of content is. Finally, our
sample score was higher in BID than we expected, but it is hard to know the cause.
