Turismo sostenible. El caso de las Islas Baleares

Abstract

[spa] El turismo ha traído muchos beneficios a la sociedad moderna, pero con ellos también muchos problemas de carácter social, medioambiental, cultural, etc… En el siguiente trabajo se plantean los principales cambios y problemas que dicha industria ha traído a las Islas Baleares y algunas posibles soluciones. Se tratan, en parte, tipologías de turismo más sostenibles a las tradicionales, pero también se verán otras ideas barajadas actualmente para reducir los impactos negativos de este sector en las islas. Baleares es conocida en todo el mundo por sus preciosas playas y su buen clima, lo cual es su principal atractivo, pero las islas cuentan con muchos otros puntos fuertes que no se están desarrollando del todo y que ayudarían a diversificar su oferta. Se analiza también el papel fundamental que juegan la política y las empresas para poder paliar las externalidades negativas del turismo además de la necesidad de la implicación de la ciudadanía.

[eng] Tourism has brought many benefits to modern society, but with them also many problems such as social and environmental nature, among others... In the following paper the main changes and problems that this industry has brought to the Balearic Islands and some possible solutions will be discussed. It addresses, in part, more sustainable types of tourism than the traditional one, but it will also consider other ideas currently being discussed to reduce the negative impacts of this sector on the islands. The Balearics are known worldwide for their beautiful beaches and good climate, which is their main attraction, but the islands have many other undeveloped strengths that would help to diversify their offer. The key role of politics and business in mitigating the negative externalities of tourism and the need for public involvement are also discussed.
