[eng] The consolidation of ICT in the EFL classroom coincides with a reduction of both extensive
reading and literature. Nevertheless, these elements are not mutually exclusive. The paper
aims at offering a glimpse on the situation of literature, extensive reading and gamification in
EFL courses and it further explores the possibility of introducing literature and extensive
reading through gamification. Accordingly, a survey was distributed to English teachers and
4th of ESO students in Mallorca. Outcomes suggest that the presence of literature in EFL
courses is limited and that they favor the practice of intensive reading. Besides, results
confirm that gamification is paving its way into EFL courses and it is perceived positively by
both teachers and students. Thus, the paper offers the theoretical representation of a didactic
proposal based on gamification to revitalize literature and extensive reading in EFL courses.
