[eng] Introduction and objective: Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) is a disorder characterised by abnormal growth and instability of the hip joint affecting newborns. It is the most common congenital malformation affecting the hip in 14% of infants. The Pavlik harness has been recognised as the standard and effective treatment. This method maintains the infant's lower limbs in flexion and abduction of the hips and flexion of the knees, a position very similar to that adopted in ergonomic babywearing. The general objective of the present review is to find out whether ergonomic babywearing is comparable to the Pavlik harness in the treatment of DDH in infants aged 0-6 months for symptom improvement. Search strategy: A bibliographic search of the scientific evidence of the last 10 years in Spanish and English was carried out in the PubMed and EBSCOhost databases. Results: 15 articles have been selected, some of them about ergonomic babywearing and hip development or DDH, others about the impact and benefit of carrying and the rest about the Pavlik harness as a treatment for DDH. Conclusions: Postnatal position is a major factor influencing the development of DDH, therefore ergonomic babywearing may be a good tool for an adequate management of this disorder. However, the evidence is scarce and more studies are needed.
