El hospedaje en Baleares a principios del siglo XX

[spa] Después de los primeros viajeros del siglo XIX, que cumplieron una función de promoción de la isla debido a su influencia social, en las primeras décadas del siglo XX, Mallorca empieza a desarrollarse como potencia turística. Se construyó en 1903 el primer hotel de lujo, preparado para alojar a personajes destacados del momento. Es un hecho histórico que supone un antes y un después en el turismo de la isla, sin embargo, a través del estudio de una selección del padrón de Palma de 1936, se analiza el alojamiento llevado a cabo en la ciudad y vemos que, además de aquellos lugares dedicados de manera profesional, donde encontramos a la mayoría de los huéspedes, existe también un gran número de casas particulares que ofrecen una de sus habitaciones, normalmente a una sola persona. Este último dato, quizás menos evidente pero no menos importante, nos muestra la realidad y las diferentes circunstancias de los huéspedes. Se observan las diferencias entre los alojamientos gracias a descripciones objetivas y a la literatura de viajes, que muestra un punto de vista más subjetivo.

[eng] After the first travellers of the 19th century, who played a role in promoting the island due to their social influence, in the first decades of the 20th century, Mallorca began to develop as a tourist power. In 1903, the first luxury hotel was built, prepared to accommodate prominent figures of the time. It is a historical fact that marked a before and after in the island's tourism, however, through the study of a selection of the 1936 census of Palma, we analyse the accommodation provided in the city and we see that, in addition to those places dedicated professionally to accommodation, where we find most of the guests, there is also a large number of private homes that offer one of their rooms, normally to a single person. This last fact, perhaps less obvious but no less important, shows us the reality and the different circumstances of the guests. The differences between the accommodation can be seen from objective descriptions and from the travel literature, which shows a more subjective point of view.
