De Valencia a Mallorca. Transmisión de la técnica del esgrafiado entre monasterios cartujos

Abstract

[spa] La técnica del esgrafiado tuvo un importante foco de irradiación en Valencia durante el siglo XVII. Desde allí se extendió a otras regiones españolas como Aragón, Cataluña y las Islas Baleares. La comparación y la reinterpretación de algunas fuentes documentales desvelan que llegó a Mallorca en el último cuarto de la centuria, revelan el papel que jugaron las cartujas valencianas en esa transmisión y desmienten hipótesis anteriores sobre una posible influencia catalana. El estudio muestra la Cartuja de Valldemossa como un importante núcleo de recepción, analiza la figura del artista religioso e incide en el perfil profesional que se encargó de trabajar dicha técnica, siguiendo el modelo valenciano. Finalmente contextualiza los restos materiales que se han conservado, identifica las funciones que cumplieron, la persistencia de su utilización hasta la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII y la repercusión que tuvieron en su entorno inmediato. ABSTRACT The sgraffito technique had an important irradiation focus in Valencia during the seventeenth century. From there it spread to other Spanish regions such as Aragon, Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. The comparison and reinterpretation of some well-known documentary sources reveal that it arrivedin Mallorca in the last quarter of the century, reveal the role that the Valencian Carthusians played in this transmission and disprove previous hypotheses about a possible Catalan influence. The study shows the Cartuja de Valldemossa as an important reception center, analyzes the figure of the religious artist and affects the professional profile who was in charge of working with this technique, following the Valencian model. Finally, it contextualizes the material remains that have been preserved, identifies the functions they fulfilled, the persistence of their use until the second half of the 18th century and the impact they had on their immediate surroundings
