alludes to the problematicity of two powers, highlighting its importance and subsequent
repercussions on modern thought. To do this, it is divided into three blocks: the first, deals
with the basis of power in the Middle Ages; the second, analyzes the importance of
religion in Machiavelli to point out the most characteristic points of the previous section,
and the third refers to the work of the Florentine author to demonstrate the validity of the
arguments set out in the two previous sections. This essay concludes with the proposal of
conceiving Machiavelli as a ‘post classical’ author who allows us to understand the
particularity of medieval political thought through his influence on Modernity
