[eng] This dissertation aims to identify the changes of register present in the neutral Spanish
dubbing of the animated series known as Arcane (2021), an audiovisual production belonging
to the video games company, Riot Games. This audiovisual material, chosen due to its novelty
within the television industry thanks to the renowned Netflix streaming platform, will be
examined thoroughly to comprehend both, the translator’s task and the result of the dubbing
process. The analysis consists in the selection of various vulgar register-related instances and
the study of the translation techniques applied to each case. Once the problems have been
discovered, it will be examined the nature of those issues and the solutions provided by the
Arcane dubbing agents, as well as the solutions we propound for each case. Based on the
results, it will be possible to define Arcane’s quality, intelligibility, fidelity with the original
English version, its linguistic and cultural adaptation to the target language, as well as the
translation strategies based on the exhaustive study made on the series. Finally, we will know
if the dubbing of Runeterra’s universe lives up to its success.
