[eng] Mind wandering (MW) has been the subject of increasing interest in its study in
recent years. It has been found that a greater tendency to MW is associated with a
greater presence of negative thoughts and emotions, anxiety and depression problems,
and greater difficulties in regulating thoughts and emotions. In this context, there are
different activities whose practice involves the use of adaptive coping and emotional
regulation (ER) strategies. One of the most notable examples is the practice of regular
physical activity (PA). The literature demonstrates that PA practice has been linked to
an adaptive use of different ER strategies, a reduction in negative emotions and an
increase in resilience. However, the potential relationships between PA and MW have
hardly been directly explored in the literature. The main objective of the present study
was to explore the potential association between different levels of daily PA and MW
in a sample of 31 participants selected without any specific characteristics.
Additionally, the relationship between rumination and spontaneous MW was
examined. Our results indicate that there is no association between any of the
variables studied. It is necessary to review the literature and use another
methodological approach in future research on this topic.
