Abstract

[spa] El trabajo de fin de grado analiza la configuración del sector marítimo en el barrio de Santa Catalina, un sector donde residía buena parte de la marinería de Palma, un año antes del estallido de la Guerra Civil española. A partir del padrón de 1935, se estudia cuál era la estructura demográfica de las familias relacionadas con la mar, las profesiones de sus integrantes, la tasa de actividad femenina en estas ocupaciones, su retribución salarial y los niveles de alfabetización. Todo ello permite esbozar algunas de las condiciones del sector y empezar a explicar un aparente repliegue del sector, que coincide con la industrialización que el barrio experimentó a principios del siglo XX.

[eng] This final degree project analyses the configuration of the maritime sector in Palma before the Spanish Civil War. The study focuses on the neighborhood of Santa Catalina, where a considerable part of the seafarer community lived. The register of inhabitants of 1935 shows the demographical structure of the families related to the sea, the professions of their members, the female tax activity of such occupations, their salaries, and their literacy levels. All these factors suggest some of the conditions in the maritime sector. In addition, they allow a starting explanation for an apparent retreat, coinciding with the industrialization of the neighborhood at the beginning of the 20th century.
