El Regionalisme a través de la Festa de l'Estendard (1875-1923)

[cat] La Festa de l’Estendard segons la historiografia romàntica ha estat definida com la commemoració del naixement de la Mallorca cristiana i d’arrel catalana. Tanmateix, aquesta celebració ha experimentat diferentes fases, des de la màxima esplendor durant l’Edat mitjana, fins la seva pràctica desaparició. Aquest procés de decaïment coincideix amb el pas de l’Antic règim a l’Edat contemporània, a partir del final del segle XVIII, i són molts els factors que la varen convertir en obsoleta. Cal destacar, per tant, el xoc entre els valors de l’antiga celebració, considerats arcaics, els quals no connectaven amb la nova estructura social dins la formació de l’Estat nació. Així que el que ens interessa, d’aquesta etapa de decadència, és veure com l'aniversari de la Conquista va deixant enrere la seva essència original, per adoptar una nova realitat en què està emmarcada l’illa, fonamentada en la nova manera d’entendre l’Estat espanyol. En aquest aspecte, cal entendre que a partir de finals del segle XIX el paper del regionalisme va ser clau per la recuperació de la Festa. Això fou de tal manera que es poden localitzar, dins els rituals de la celebració de l’efemèride, evidències clares d’un cert intent de defugir del centralisme castellà i de destacar els aspectes de la cultura pròpia; és a dir, hi ha un intent de fer Nació espanyola a partir de les petites pàtries.

[eng] According to romantic historiography, the “Festa de l’Estendard” has been defined as the commemoration of the birth of Christian Mallorca and its Catalan roots. However, this celebration has undergone different phases, from its maximum splendour during the Middle Ages to its virtual disappearance. This process of decline coincided with the transition from the Ancien Régime to the Contemporary Age, from the end of the 18th century onwards, and there are many factors that made it obsolete. It is worth noting, therefore, the clash between the values of the old celebration, considered archaic, which did not connect with the new social structure within the formation of the nation state. So, what interests us about this stage of decadence is to see how the anniversary of the Conquest is leaving behind its original essence, to adopt a new reality in which the island is framed, based on the new way of understanding the Spanish State. In this respect, it should be understood that from the end of the 19th century onwards, the role of regionalism was key to the recovery of the Fiesta. This was such that it is possible to locate, within the rituals of the celebration of the event, clear evidence of a certain attempt to shun Castilian centralism and to highlight aspects of one's own culture; that is to say, an attempt is being made to build the Spanish homeland from the regions.
