[eng] This thesis explores how artificial intelligence (AI) text-to-image generators can be used to improve the development of speaking skills in English as a second language (ESL) education. The paper reviews the role of generative AI, the neglect of speaking skills in ESL, and teachers’ challenges in generating materials, suggesting how AI image generators can solve some of these hindrances. Subsequently, a didactic proposal based on AI-generated images is presented. It consists of three activities with different dynamics, addressed to different levels of secondary education (ESO). This proposal suggests the benefits of AI image generators to help teachers generate speaking materials, including adaptability to their teaching goals and profitability as a free tool that requires minimal technological knowledge. The benefits extend to students by enhancing their creativity and motivation and allowing for personalized learning. After discussing the possible limitations of this thesis, including those related to AI tools, this paper concludes by highlighting the advantages of AI image generators in speaking skills development and suggesting the significant impact that AI is expected to have on pedagogical approaches. |
