Estudio de las aportaciones culturales de los artistas alemanes afincados en las Islas Baleares desde finales del s.XIX hasta la actualidad

[spa] Mallorca ha sido desde finales del siglo XIX el lugar elegido por artistas e intelectuales de origen alemán para pasar las vacaciones, ser objeto de estudio, de refugio político y posterior residencia. El Archiduque Luis Salvador puede considerarse uno de los primeros visitantes que, además de disfrutar del paisaje y del clima, observó y estudió el entorno, su fauna, su flora, sus habitantes, sus costumbres y escribió su famoso Die Balearen in Wort und Bild Geschildert (1869- 1891) publicado en 1890-1891 en la editorial Brockhaus de Leipzig (Alemania). Con esta obra el Archiduque se convirtió en el primer promotor del turismo alemán en las islas. Posteriormente, durante el régimen nazi, fueron muchas las personalidades relacionadas con la cultura, especialmente escritores, que se exiliaron y encontraron cobijo en estas tierras. Describieron en sus obras el paisaje y las gentes de una Mallorca rural y sumida en la pobreza y la incultura y también plasmaron el estallido de la Guerra Civil española. Junto con Cala Ratjada, una de las localidades referente de este turismo alemán es Santanyí; su término municipal ha llegado a tener más de una décima parte de su población residente de origen germano. Por todo ello, no es de extrañar la huella que el turismo alemán ha dejado en la cultura y en la economía de las Islas Baleares.

[eng] Since the end of the 19th century, Mallorca has been the place chosen by artists and intellectuals of German origin for holidays, study, political refuge and later residence. Archduke Ludwig Salvator can be considered one of the first visitors who, in addition to enjoying the landscape and climate, observed and studied the environment, its fauna, flora, inhabitants and customs, and wrote his famous Die Balearen. With this book, he became the first promoter of German tourism on the islands. Later, during the Nazi regime, many cultural figures, especially writers, went into exile and found refuge in these lands. In their works, they described the landscape and the people of a rural Mallorca, which was immersed in poverty and ignorance, and they depicted the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. Along with Cala Ratjada, Santanyí is one of the most important places for this German tourism; its municipal district has come to have more than a tenth of its resident population of German origin. For all these reasons, it is not surprising that German tourism has left its mark on the culture and economy of the Balearic Islands.
