[eng] The socio-political unrest across the Arab World during 2011 known as the
“Arab Spring” has had a lasting effect on the tourism industry of many states in
the region. This paper analyzes the consequences of said event and further
crises on the Egyptian tourism industry and it´s levels of activity and revenue.
Simultaneously, it examines the large diversity of policies and strategies
adopted by Egyptian authorities throughout the 2010s in order to restore activity
levels, persevere through each incident and reach its full potential. Ultimately, it
focuses on the situation of other neighboring states (mainly GCC states) and
the success of their tourism industries during the same period of time. This is
done in order to make a comprehensive comparison of the policies applied and
the possible opportunities that open up for the future of the Egyptian tourism
industry in the long term. |
