[eng]The carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common neuropathy peripheral nerve
entrapment and generates high costs to the health system. This study investigated the
effectiveness of neurodynamic techniques and their possible application in the diagnosis
and treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome. Concerning the diagnosis of this syndrome, it
was found that, in combination with other common diagnostic tests, the stress test of the
median nerve is a reliable method to diagnose carpal tunnel syndrome. With regard to
the studies analyzed, they showed different results: while some conclude that they are
indeed effective, other studies claim their ineffectiveness. Neurodynamic techniques
consist of treating the affected nerve mechanosensitivity through the mobilization of the
joints. There are two different types: sliding techniques and stretching techniques. It
showed that sliding techniques can have an effect on the central nervous system,
making it better measure than the stretching to improve pain. In conclusion to this
study, neurodynamic techniques obtained positive results and it was confirmed that it is
a respectable procedure concerning the diagnosis and treatment of carpal tunnel
syndrome. |
