[eng] Introduction:
Dry needling is a method of treatment that is actually gaining importance in the treatment of
myofascial pain syndrome. This syndrome is mainly characterized by the presence of a
myofascial trigger point, due to that, dry needling searchs the desactivation of this painful
points inserting special needles. This technique is widely used in clinical practise, but due to
the difficulty in realizing studies concerning it, it is said that there is no solid evidence that
supports his use.
Objective:
The aim of this narrative revision is to evaulate the effectiveness of dry needling in the
treatment of myofascial pain syndrome, and at the same time to analize his mecanisms of
action and difenet ways of application.
Searching strategy:
We have searched in some data bases like Pubmed, Pedro, Ibecs y Google Schoolar useing
“Dry needling”, “Myofascial pain syndrome” and “Myofascial trigger point” as keywords.
Results:
We choose and analize 29 articles in english or spanish, published after 2011 including
clinical trials, sitematic revisions, narrative revisions and clinical comentaries.
Conclusions:
The inicial hipotesis is confirmed, dry needling is an effective tratment method aplied to
myofascial pain syndrome. The thecnique is more effective when the inicial pain of the
patient is higher, and also when combined with stretching of the affected muscle. The
principal mechanisms in whitch his effectiveness is based are the elimination of nociceptive
substances and the rupture of the affected fibers and motor endplates, and also the local twitch
response is related to a higher effectiveness. |
