[eng] The Multiculturality found in Spanish schools is undeniable, but it hasn’t always
been like this. Over the past 10 years there has been a significant rise of foreign
students. We must learn to adapt our teaching strategies to a constantly
changing student population. For this reason, we need an educational model
that promotes interculturality, tolerance, and respect. The English Language
subject is perfect to reach these goals due to its flexibility and cross-curricular
nature. One of the main goals of my paper is to teach the English language in
an intercultural and tolerant environment, respecting every culture and learning
from and with it, emphasizing the importance of teaching the English language
with its cultural component. The methodology used is called “cooperative
learning” and it promotes team and peer work, both being key elements for
good understanding. We are going to carry out different Christmas activities
adapted in a cooperative way. We can conclude that the best way to help
students be aware of multiculturality and learn to respect it is through
cooperative learning. This way, we will fight against stereotypes and most
importantly, try to avoid transferring these conceptions to our class.
