[eng] This research aims to discuss the need of teaching pronunciation in secondary
school as a crucial constituent to develop intelligibility and comprehensibility
when communicating in English as a foreign language (EFL). The theoretical
part of this paper offers a general overview of the history of pronunciation
teaching in the world and the current situation in an English classroom.
The practical part presents a didactic proposal which has been designed for an
intensive English program in order to give prominence to pronunciation in EFL
classroom and to familiarize students with elementary notions of pronunciation
through a set of activities. Besides, the development of the didactic proposal is
aimed to examine the student’s comprehensibility, intelligibility and
interpretability. Lastly, the practical part also includes an additional section
related to pronunciation assessment.
The purpose of this paper is to highlight the importance and the benefits of
incorporating pronunciation as one more area of the English curriculum in EFL
classroom. As well as, implementing an effective pronunciation instruction in
order to guarantee an accurate second-language acquisition (SLA).
