[eng] An increase in the nonagenarian and centenarian long-lived population on the
island of Ibiza has been observed in the last 5 years, especially in rural areas,
according to the latest data from the National Statistical Institute (INE).
The objective of the research project is to determine if there is a relationship
between the Mediterranean Diet and the longevity of the Ibizan peasants, since
by custom and tradition the Mediterranean Diet has been the lifestyle of people
who have lived and worked in the countryside on the island of Ibiza. Thus, the
hypothesis of the work is that a high adherence to the Mediterranean Diet
contributes to the longevity of the ibicencos.
For this, an observational, transversal, descriptive study will be carried out. The
target population is people who live or have lived most of their lives in the countryside of Ibiza, rural manual workers who perform or have performed tasks
in the field, who have surpassed the average life expectancy of the island of
Ibiza.
The information for the study will be obtained through individual interviews and
data such as age, sex, type of work or occupation, physical activity, place of
residence, coexistence with other relatives, associated chronic pathologies and
degree of adherence to the Diet Mediterranean by means of the validated
survey "Test of adherence to the Mediterranean Diet of PREDIMED". Interviews
will be conducted at the homes of people included in the study with prior
informed consent.
From the results obtained will serve to implement strategies for health
promotion and education in the area of Ibiza related to the ibicenca
Mediterranean Diet , in addition to avoiding the loss of healthy habits
traditionally and orally passed from parents to children.
