[eng] Calcifications are storages of calcium salts in organic matrixes in different types of tissues. Despite that its formation is a controlled process; there might be disequilibria between the procalcification systems and the anticalcification systems. The result of this disequilibrium are the pathological calcifications. The standard treatment of these diseases are bisphosphonates. However, recently phytate has been revealed as an alternative treatment. The aim of this study is to compare the two classes of anticalcification treatments: phytate and bisphosphonates. The conclusion we reached is that both phytate and bisphosphonates are useful treatments for pathological calcificacions. However, bisphosphonates are more potent in vivo than phytate. Conversely, phytate has the main advantage that it does not have major side effects.
