zona d’estudi.
[eng] Given the importance of the environmental impacts related to wildfires in the
Mediterranean region, this study aims to study investigate the causes and factors in the
spread of a wildfire that occurred on Decemb.er 27th, 2017 in the “coll de Siller”, Port of
Pollença. The cause of the fire was accidental. For that reason, by means of the
analysis of the climatic and meteorological conditions, we aim to observe how they
contributed to the spread of such event. On the other hand, by means of remote
sensing, we intended to quantify the severity and extension of the burned area along
with the spatio - temporal change or evolution of the state of vegetation and water
stress of the plants and the soil. The analysis of different time scales helped
corroborating the climatic conditions to which the vegetation is subject in the study
zone. In this way, the results indicate that the drought, which is subject to the Balearic
Islands since recent years, marked through the standardised index of precipitation –
evapotranspiration, together with the meteorological conditions of the month of
December and the time when the fire occurred, it have been the crucial factors in the
spread of this fire. Finally, certain measures and challenges for the future are proposed
to prevent more fires from occurring in this study area.
