d’ESO.
agrupament heterogeni.
[eng] Grouping students is and has been a very important and decisive question
so students can achieve a good level of knowledge. Nowadays, the Spanish
system do not contemplate which is the type of organization that has to be
established in secondary education. This causes a great deal of opinions and
ways of doing things that make necessary to take a look to the different points of
view that institutions, form teachers and pupils may have to conclude which would
be the best for each situation. Even though there are studies that demonstrate
heterogeneous groupings as the best due to the fact that students have the same
right to learn and everyone can learn from each other, low-ability students can
get help from high-ability students and the latter can learn how to work in groups
and deal with diversity, which is what they will encounter once they finish their
studies, each reality is justifiable depending on the situation.
The aim of this Master’s Thesis is to analyse the situation through
observation, the academic results of the second term, a survey to the students
and form teachers and an interview to the Head of Studies of the first cycle of
ESO. Firstly, it will be shown the historical context of the different types of
groupings with studies that benefit both sides (heterogeneous groupings and
homogeneous groupings). Secondly, the reality of a secondary school will be
described. And, finally, the abovementioned results will be commented with their
conclusions. At the end, the most relevant aspect that will be discussed is that
even although high-ability students have a very good perception and results in
their homogeneous group, the other pupils suffer from this arrangement, which is
seen in their academic results and attitude. For this reason, prove will be given
to show how important is to group students in heterogeneous type of groupings
so each student have the same opportunities to learn.
