Valiantzas, Makkink, Priestley-Taylor, Jensen-Haise, Turc, Irmak, Tabari i Ritchie, incloent-hi diferents
versions d'alguns d’aquests models.
cultius i, pels models calibrats, Valiantzas 3c i Turcc.

[eng] Evapotranspiration (ET) is the combination of two separate processes through which water is
lost via the surface of the soil by evaporation and by perspiration of the crop. It is a fundamental part
of the hydrological cycle, water balance and vital for estimating water requirements for irrigation. It is
a very important parameter in the scientific field generally, and essential in the context of the planning
of irrigation, management of areas of irrigation, crop production, and environmental evaluation.
The Penman-Monteith method is currently recommended by the FAO (Food and Agriculture
Organization of the United Nations) and the ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) to determine
ET0 from radiation, temperature, atmospheric humidity, and wind speed. However this method has
the inconvenience of the large number of inputs it uses, and may not be applicable in many stations.
Therefore, it is necessary to study other empirical models that require fewer climate parameters to
replace it and, if necessary, adapt them so that they function correctly.
This work evaluates the behaviour of different empirical calculation models of ET0 as
alternatives to the Penman-Monteith equation in 12 stations of the Balearic Islands. In addition, the
effect of the ET0 model on irrigation needs that would be derived from its application will be analysed.
For this purpose, the needs of raw irrigation with the empirical models of 10 crops have been
calculated following the recommendations of the FAO.
In particular, the models considered were Penman-Monteith FAO-56, Hargreaves, Valiantzas,
Makkink, Priestley-Taylor, Jensen-Haise, Turc, Irmak, Tabari and Ritchie, including different versions of
some of these models. An aim for the calculations of ET0 on a daily scale is to adjust some of these
models linearly ain order to provide better operation in the islands. To complete the study, we
estimate the overflow or infraration of the irrigation needs derived from empirical models using the
derivatives of PMF-56 as a reference.
After the statistical analysis, it can be said that, in general, the best models to calculate ET0,
as an alternative to PMF-56, could be Turc and Priestley-Taylor without calibration and, with the
adjustment coefficients, the most accurate are Valiantzas 3c and Turcc. For ET0 values by station the
best uncalibrated model is Turc, while the best calibrated model is Valiantzas 3c and Turcc.
Finally, regarding the NRb, those that are closer to the reference value are Turc and Irmak
for the 10 crops and, for calibrated models, Valiantzas 3c and Turcc. With regard to ΔNRb of
uncalibrated models, the one with the greatest understimation is Jensen Haise, and the one that
overestimates most is Valiantzas 3. Of the calibrated models the most accurate with an
underestimation is Valiantzas 3c, while Ritchie overestimates; but is closest to the reference. The
choice of the ET calculation model is key in calculating the needs of irrigation, and can lead to
significant differences both in the tendency to overestimate or underestimate the water needed,
which in turn affects the amount of water saved, or the deficit caused. |
