[eng] Introduction: It is known that the world prevalence of gestational diabetes (GD) is
growing, the importance of lifestyle and dietetic habits in GD is well established and
can be considered as potentially adjustable risk factors. A significant relationship
between the total ingestion of fat and the risk of GD has been observed. However, it
has been observed noticed that the Mediterranean diet (MD) as aneating pattern
characterised by alow in take of saturated fats, isassocited with a reduced incidence of
DG.
Objective: Investigate whether, during an ad libitum diet, an excessive intake of
saturated fats can influence the onset of GD in pregnant women without previous
metabolic risk factor and belonging to the Almassera de Tonda de Villajoyosa health
centre (Alicante, Spain).
Design: Prospective longitudinal observational study in pregnant women over 18 years
of age assessing the relationship between high intakes of saturated fatty acids and
onset of GD, over a period of 6 months
Monitoring will last 6 months to assess a high intake of saturated fatty acids on the
appearance of GD.
Study subjects: Pregnant women over 18 years of age who attend their first pregnancy
control visit with the midwife in the first trimester of pregnancy and who meet the
inclusion criteria, will be interviewed.
