[eng] Intermittent fasting is a nutritional model that is bases on periods of fasting and periods
of food ingestion (feeding window). Despite the current popularity of this type of diet,
it is not a new strategy. For some cultures, fasting was practiced to cure different
diseases, since they knew of its power to revitalize and rejuvenate on a physical and
mental level. Other culture did it for a religious reasons.
The objective of the present study is to determine if intermittent fasting and
modifications of healthy lifestyle behavior related to physical activity, are a viable
method to improve health and to assess whether it influences physical and psychological
biomarkers.
To achieve this objective, health workers without pathologies between 30 and 55 years
old will be recruited from the COVID floor of the General University Hospital Salta Lucía
de Cartagena, Murcia. They will be randomized with a 1:1 ratio into two groups: 1)
Participants who will follow a traditional Mediterranean diet; 2) Participant who will do
intermittent fasting. The IF will be 16/8 and will take place every two days for 10 weeks.
To evaluate the effects of the IF, we will use a Marjory Gordon functional patterns for a
complete anamnesis, analysis of blood and urine test and the satisfaction with life scale
(SWLS). The SWLS will be used to determine the level of satisfaction of our participants.
They will be measured at the beginning of the study, in the fifth week and in the tenth
week.
