[eng] Music is one of the most widespread fine arts in the world and has great
communicative capacity. It has multiple functions at the individual, group, and social
levels. Music is born as a form of expression forfeelings, thoughts, and emotions, and
evolves to be part of the basic therapies of health care. Music therapy is a type of
therapy developed by qualified personnel, the music therapists, who are responsible
for assessing the health needs for which health personnel have referred eachpatient in
question. Once the situation of the person has been analyzed, objectives are set and a
series of activities are carried out based on the main techniques and theories in music
therapy that will be complementary to the patient’s therapeutic treatment. When
working with children, different needs will be addressed, not only depending on the
ailment they are suffering from but also depending on their age. Music is ubiquitous in
children’s life experiences but as they grow older they develop their own musical sense,
which is why it will be crucial for the music therapist to have the ability to adapt to the
preferences of children and especially teenagers, while directing interventions towards
their set health goals.
