Abstract

[spa] En el marco de la globalización, proceso que caracteriza a nuestra era y que ha supuesto la internacionalización del mercado capitalista mundial y la inclusión del respeto a las libertades y los derechos humanos como asunto crucial en las agendas de organismos e instituciones internacionales, este trabajo propone reflexionar sobre la relación que tiene el turismo con esos derechos fundamentales y los retos actuales que debe afrontar la industria. Partiendo de esta incuestionable relación, se destaca cómo a pesar del peso que tiene el turismo en el desarrollo de la economía de los estados, es también instrumento que favorece procesos negativos, en muchos casos, significativos ataques a los derechos humanos. Se enfatiza en el turismo sexual y la trata de personas como consecuencias nefastas de su desarrollo, fenómenos que claman con urgencia la implicación real de la industria, que debe dejar atrás la inercia y asumir la ejecución de acciones efectivas en su papel de liderazgo del progreso socioeconómico.

[eng] In the context of globalization, a process that characterizes our era and that has led to the internationalization of the world capitalist market and the inclusion of respect for human rights and freedoms as a crucial issue on the agendas of international organizations and institutions, this paper proposes to reflect on the relationship between tourism and these fundamental rights and the current challenges that the industry must face. Based on this unquestionable relationship, it highlights how, despite the importance of tourism in the development of the economy of the states, it is also an instrument that favors negative processes, in many cases, significant attacks on human rights. Emphasis is placed on sex tourism and human trafficking as harmful consequences of its development, phenomena that urgently call for the real involvement of the industry, which must leave inertia behind and assume the execution of effective actions in its role of leadership of socioeconomic progress.
