[eng] The main objective of this study is to investigate the attitudes and perceptions of mothers who
exercise their children's upbringing alone and for this purpose, the participation of women
who are part of the Association of Single-Parent Families of the Balearic Islands has been
counted. Despite the fact that in more than eighty percent of cases, these family structures are
headed by a woman, the concept of monomarentality is invisible and, collaterally, the reality
of all of them. Based on previous research hypotheses, based on the relevant rating scales,
several indicators of interest have been explored. On the one hand, following a quantitative
methodology, we have investigated perceived social support, resilience and parental stress.
On the other hand, following a qualitative methodology, the initial feelings before
monomarentality have been tested, the most recurrent fears and main needs. The main goal of
conducting this study is to involve single-parent mothers in their own recognition process,
giving them a voice through freedom of expression. The results of this study are, to say the
least, interesting and clash sharply with the initial ideas: another demonstration of how
necessary is the demystification of the stereotype.
