Application of a communicative approach to teach english as a foreign language in secondary education

Abstract

[eng] The purpose of this project is to reveal the importance of improving and developing communicative skills and motivation to speak English in secondary school. Furthermore, I will highlight the relevance of real contexts to practise especially oral and listening competences (which are often not focused at the real practice of L2 in real life). For this reason, I will develop three learning situations aimed at practising these skills, which will be adapted to the competences meant to be achieved in a group of 3rd of ESO, and I also will expose the strategies necessary to acquire a second language from a communicative approach.

[cat] L’objectiu d’aquest treball és revelar la importància de millorar i desenvolupar les competències comunicatives i la motivació per a parlar anglès en els alumnes de l’educació secundària. A més a més, posaré de relleu la rellevància de l’ús de contexts reals per practicar les habilitats lingüístiques — especialment de comprensió i expressió oral, que sovint queden relegades a exercicis mecànics que no fomenten l’ús real del llenguatge— en situacions que promouen l’aprenentatge real. Per a tot això, plantejaré tres situacions d’aprenentatge enfocades a l’adquisició d’aquestes habilitats adaptades a un grup de tercer d’ESO, en què quedin patents les estratègies que podem dur a terme per assolir l’adquisició de la llengua des d’un enfocament comunicatiu.
