Abstract

[eng] Along the present work I will focus on the exposition and the explanation of the abacus, all the types of abacus that we can find nowadays and the changes that they have experienced throughout the history, how does it works and I will specially focus on the Soroban abacus paying attention to the benefits that it provides to the society. But I will not stop there; I will carry out an investigation with the support of several studies to prove all those benefits. Furthermore, I will display specific cases to prove when the utilization of an abacus is recommended and when it is not. To finish my exposition I will talk about Aloha Mental Arithmetic, a platform who defends the utilization of the abacus to perform mathematical operations. Its features, its benefits and the studies who endorse this method.
