Factores y causas del abandono en los estudios de doctorado

[spa] En España, cada año hay miles de personas que deciden iniciar un programa de doctorado en las Universidades de las diferentes Comunidades Autónomas, pero tan sólo una tercera parte llegan a finalizar su tesis doctoral con éxito. Por lo tanto, este proyecto se centra en la realización de una investigación para conocer y analizar cuáles son las causas que llevan a tantísimos alumnos a fracasar durante sus doctorados y de no llegar al fin de sus estudios que un día decidieron iniciar. Para ello se ha entrevistado a diez sujetos, de los cuales cinco poseen una titulación de doctorado, y otros cinco se quedaron en el camino, sin llegar al fin de su tesis doctoral. Se ha podido determinar, que los problemas y conflictos que sufren los estudiantes de doctorado van más allá de la dificultad que suponen dichos estudios y de la realización de la tesis, por lo que los principales resultados obtenidos en este estudio destacan que la problemática está ligada a múltiples factores personales y/o familiares, sociales y/o económicos, pero también a factores institucionales, relacionados, por ejemplo, con el/la directora/a de la tesis y su falta de entendimiento y relación, que por lo consiguiente, éstos pueden desencadenar la toma de decisión referente al abandono en dichos estudios.

[eng] In Spain, every year there are thousands of people who decide to start a doctoral program in the Universities of each Autonomous Community. In fact, only a third of them reach the end of their doctoral thesis successfully. Therefore, this project is focused on conducting research to understand and analyze the causes that lead so many students to fail their doctorates and not to reach the end of their studies once they have already decided to start. For this reason ten subjects have been interviewed —five of them have a doctorate degree, and the other five were left on the road, without reaching the end of their doctoral thesis. It has been determined that problems and conflicts experienced by doctoral students go beyond the difficulty that such studies entail and the thesis itself. In this sense, the main results obtained 4 in this study show that the problem is linked to multiple personal and/or family, social and/or economic factors, but also to institutional factors related to the tutor of the thesis and their lack of understanding and interested towards them; thus they can carry out a decision-making process concerning the abandonment of such studies.
