[eng] The project is divided into a descriptive and an analytic section. The first section
presents a study of the profile of the typical tourist found in the Balearic islands,
and of his level of consumption according to various different characteristics. It
is observed from the data in various graphs and tables that during recent years
the presence of tourists categorized as “other international”, referring mainly to
tourists from BRICS countries, has become increasingly important. These
tourists, usually of high purchasing power, spend great amounts of money
whilst visiting the islands. Furthermore, it is shown that the Pitiüses are the
islands of highest tourist attraction, especially for foreign population of high
purchasing power, and hence the islands in which most money is spent per
person every day.
Additionally, several cross tabulations have been conducted and aimed at
establishing correlations between tourist expenditure and the variables
mentioned above. Finally, the last section intends to computationally estimate a
multiple linear regression model using the database from the “Tourism
Consumer Survey”, via Gretl. It can be observed from this exaclty which are the
determining variables of tourism expenditure in Baleares, and it can serve as a
guide for determining the touristic offer.
