dc.description.abstract [eng]The aim of this project is to find out whether 5 year old children understand basic commands in English as a second or third language. Society demands more and more knowledge of languages, so that is why schools are increasing the number of English lessons, but what do Majorcan children know about English? This is research project on this topic. The study focuses on one 5-6 years class in Es Liceu, a concerted school in Marratxí, on the island of Majorca. Firstly, it deals with the importance of the English language in the world, then it addresses aspects related to second or third language acquisition, and then it briefly mentions the methodologies used by teachers in early childhood education. This is followed by empirical study on the understanding English commands out of the class context. It concludes with some proposals of improvement in further research. ca
