nascuts a Espanya.
[eng] Currently there are few publications on hearing children of deaf parents (known as
CODA). Almost 90% of the children born to deaf parents are hearing. Within this extraordinary
family setting, CODAs interact with two different cultural, social and linguistic systems: that
of the Deaf Community and that of the hearing community. This document focuses on the
personal descriptions of the experiences of 17 hearing children of deaf parents born in Spain.
The aim of this work is to make an approximation to the CODA’s situation treating aspects
such as: their family relationships, their role of interpreter, the family communication system
they use, their social development and their school experiences, among others. This information
can help offer appropriate practices for education professionals.
